Gundog Club of North Wales held their third Working Gundog Certificate Day on 27th July 2014, where we continued to get good support, having ten dogs taking part on the day. These comprised of 1 Golden Retriever, 3 Curly Coated Retrievers and 6 Labrador Retrievers. It was a bit of a family day out for the Curly’s as father, son and daughter were competing all of whom were successful, and one being the Judges Choice to win the voucher for a 15kg bag of Skinners dog food, who were our sponsors for the day. These and the Golden Ret. were show bred and the Labradors came from mainly working lines. Pleased to say that seven out of the ten dogs were successful in gaining their Working Gundog Certificate.

The judges were Glenys Caldwell and Steve Foreman who set out the following tests……
1. Retrieve over jump with shot.
2. Retrieve from water (the River Dee).
3. Three stick test, where handler retrieved dummy as opposed to dog.
4. Steadiness test incorporated with the drive. (Half the dogs remained steady to the drive whilst the others participated in the walked up drive, after which each half swapped over. There was one retrieve per dog during the test).
5. Double retrieve in the woods. (Two shots fired from same location with seen in front and a blind at a right angle to the right).

Althought not passing on the day Mrs W. Manning Lab. DALLAGILL BLUEBELL WITH OVERMARSH gained hers a couple of weeks later.
